#PizzaRat Goes Viral When Vermin Drags Slice Around Subway: Reactions

Publish date: 2024-10-01

It’s lunchtime! A rat shot to unexpected fame — yes, you read that right — when someone filmed it dragging a delicious slice of pizza around a New York City subway station on Monday, Sept. 21. The hilarious moment quickly went viral, leading many to root on the little critter and create memes.

In the clip, the vermin is spotted wobbling down a set of stairs en route to his destination. (Struggle city!) He grips the large slice in his mouth and moves at a fairly quick speed. He abruptly stops when the slice topples over, but recovers like. a. pro.

The rat’s afternoon adventure was naturally coined #PizzaRat on social media, and trended for several hours. The hungry animal even got its own @thepizzarat handle on Twitter.

“There’s no pizza rat emoji yet I’m going to die,” comedian and Difficult People actor Billy Eichner tweeted Monday. Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus added: “Just left my wife and kid to start a new life with pizza rat.”
