Nikki Haley’ stand on LGBTQ issues

While serving as South Carolina’s governor, she opposed a transphobic statewide bathroom bill. Haley has also opposed govt.

Recognition of the legally married same-gender couple, transgender participation in sports activities, and LGBTQ content in public schools.

Haley proclaimed that “marriage is between one woman and one man” in June 2010. Her lawyer filed court papers in 2013 under her governorship and argued that South Carolina should not have to recognize same-gender marriages performed legally in states because it could be contrary to the Tenth Amendment and the state’s sovereign interests.

During her rebuttal to President Barack Obama’s last State of the Union Address in 2016, she said republicans could respect the differences in modern families. As a cornerstone of our democracy, we would also demand respect for religious liberty.

Nikki Haley also supports Florida’s “Don’t Say G*y” bill and believes it does not go far enough because she thinks acknowledging the presence of LGBTQ people is the same as talking about s*xual intercourse.

Haley about trans children in sports

She opposes transgender children and youth participating in sports in February 2021. Haley said she opposed President Joe Biden‘s executive order, which instructed the federal government. To intervene in the areas that enforce anti-LGBTQ policies.

Transgender public bathrooms access

When Republican state legislators in South Carolina introduced a transphobic bathroom bill in 2016, Nikki said that she did not consider the legislation important because her office does not have any citizens feeling violated while other states are battling this war.

They have not seen a war needed in South Carolina, and it is not something that citizens ask for in South Carolina.

Later, she also opposed a federal directive issued by President Obama, telling public schools to allow students to utilize bathrooms aligning with their gender identity. Haley said the issue was best left to local government and states to handle.
