Jeannie Camtu Mai was born on January 4, 1979 in San Jose, California and is the eldest of her parents. She grew up in California with two younger brothers, Daniel and Dennis. Growing up, she practiced her original religion, Buddhism, but later changed to the Christian faith.
She had her secondary education from Milpitas High School and then a degree in communications from De Anza College. Belonging to a large family, the rising star started working early in life; by the age of 16, Mai was already getting into interviews and testing makeup bags owned by her mother, a local celebrity.

At the age of 18, Mai landed his first job as a makeup artist with MAC Cosmetics while living in San Jose, California. She gradually progressed in her career until she was considered competent enough to work for celebrities. Later, MTV Total Demand Live employed her as their celebrity makeup stylist and so did others, including Good Day Sacramento and KCAL Los Angeles.
In 2003, after auditioning for several hosting gigs, she landed a job, co-hosting Stir on the international channel. After that, she was employed to host her own music countdown on California Music Channel. Later, she landed the job of entertainment producer and reporter for The Daily Mixx on WB.
His first primetime job was in 2005 on the USA Network’s Fantasy Character . When she finally moved to Los Angeles, she began hosting segments related to entertainment news and fashion on several networks such as NBC, E!, Lifetime and TLC. Mai was among the guest judges during the first round of Asia’s Next Top Model in 2012.
