Asheville leaders want to ban gun shows from city limits WSOC TV
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — In the wake of last month's elementary school shooting in Connecticut, some Asheville city leaders want to ban gun shows from city limits.
The councilman proposing the ban is citing an ordinance that is almost 20 years old.
The law states that you can't have guns or knives on city-owned property, but it's never been applied to a gun show.
"Gun shows are all about people possessing weapons. I mean, that is what they're there for and they have been doing them at the civic center for years and now at the AG center. So I decided to raise the issue ... Shouldn't we be enforcing our city code?" said Cecil Bothell.
Asheville's city attorney said he will look into the issue.
